"Today's the day." - Mel Fisher
How important is one’s mindset? That is, “the established set of attitudes held by someone.” I’d suggest that all we create for ourselves, families, and business come from this personal commodity; and it’s our most valuable one. Time is not, but rather how we are and how we focus in time is what produces the majority of our outcomes in life.
I was reading last night and came across the story of Mel Fisher, an American treasure hunter, and how he and his team discovered the motherlode treasure from the sunken Nuestra Senora de Atocha off of Key West in less than 30 feet of water—a stash of gold, silver and jewels worth over $450 million. It’s a great story of vision, persistence and resiliency—all the things we need on this wonderful journey called life.
Our mindsets come from the beliefs we have about our world, which come from our experiences; begin to monitor the first things you say to yourself when you open your eyes in the morning. So, a question, we might all consider (I know I do daily) is, “How am I thinking about all the people and events in my life? And what mindset has this formed?” Be brutally honest with yourself, send your ego on vacation, and identify where you need to evolve and grow in your thinking…you’ll be glad you did.
Mel’s motto—his mindset—was “Today’s the day.” And July 20, 1985 was just that!
Press on.
